Introduction

When a battery has been set up as a partner operated battery, the Explorer menu options adjust accordingly. The Balance menu option is displayed, but the screen launched is the Partner Operated Battery Balance and reflects the different data elements required. For a partner operated battery, data is entered as transactions for each well attached to the battery. Clients can choose to use pricing data to value the entered transactions instead of entering value on each transaction.

Well-level transactions can be added in the Battery Maintenance on the Wells tab, when wells are first being linked to the battery, and can also be added directly on this screen, either manually one at a time or using the Edit Well Transactions option to create multiple transactions at once. In addition, some of the transaction types can be created via the Import Partner Operated Monthly process or by using the Upload from Spreadsheet button on the Partner Operated Battery Balance. Typically, this is used to upload data generated from Petrinex, as the formats of these spreadsheet uploads are based on the Petrinex report layouts. For more information see Partner Operated Facility Upload. Finally, Sales transactions can be updated, (not created), using the Import by Template process and the  PARTNEROPSALES template. See  How to: Spreadsheet Import Partner Operated Sales Transactions for more details. Well-level transactions will be copied into the next month during the Month End Close, with the volumes/values being reset to zero.

Pricing data can be entered at various levels, depending on how specific the data is.

For example: Price per product, price per product/purchaser, price per product/destination, etc. Entered pricing data will be copied into the next month during the Month End Close, with prices/values being reset to zero.

TABS

TABS

Transactions

This tab displays the Primary Plant for the battery (entered on the Battery Maintenance Production tab), a grid with the wells attached to the battery and several sub-tabs for various transaction types (SalesRoyalties, Production, and Wellhead). This tab is used to enter data for the various transactions associated with wells attached to the battery.

Pricing

This tab displays the Primary Plant for the battery (entered on the Battery Maintenance Production tab), a grid with the pricing records associated with the battery and a Details section for the selected row in the grid. This tab is used to enter pricing information and allocate the revenue to the various transactions.

Totals

This tab displays a summary of all transactions.

Upload Results

This tab displays upload details and error messages.

Transactions

Wells are listed in a grid at the top of the Transactions tab. Highlighting a well displays the transactions entered for the well, if any, and allows you to create, modify, or delete transactions as required.

Below the Wells grid is a series of tabs for each of the several types of transactions.

Sales

The Sales tab contains data for the selected well. Depending on the battery master configuration, either just Net fields are enabled, just Gross fields are enabled, or both Net and Gross fields are enabled. The sales, transportation, and pricing deduction values can be entered manually for each transaction, or they can be allocated based on pricing data entered on the Pricing tab.

The sales volume, value, GJs, transportation, and pricing deductions (Net and/or Gross) can also be updated using the Import by Template and the PARTNEROPSALES template. See How to: Spreadsheet Import Partner Operated Sales Transactions for more details.

Volume, value, GJs, and transportation will always be visible. The pricing deduction fields, (Quality Adjustment, Tariff, Line Loss, Other#1, and Other#2), will be visible only when either the Show Deductions button was clicked or the Show Pricing Dedns. The Default option is Yes on the Battery Maintenance - Production screen. The Oil Val Receiving Type/ID fields will appear when the battery is in a province that is using Oil Valuation RTP submissions.

For Sales transactions, the Pricing Deductions may or may not be visible by default, depending upon the Show Pricing Dedns. Default option on the Battery Maintenance - Production screen. If not visible by default, the Show Deductions button will make the Pricing Deduction fields visible and replace the Show Deductions button with the Hide Deductions button. Even without the pricing deduction fields visible, the grid will have many columns. The following picture shows them all at once to make it easier to review.

With the pricing deductions visible, the grid will have many more columns. The following picture shows them all at once. Notice the Show Deductions button has been replaced with the Hide Deductions button. Before users enter pricing deduction values, a number of considerations should be taken into account. These considerations are the same for operated properties and can be viewed on Pricing Monthly Processing.

Action buttons include Save, Save and Advance to Next Well, Revert, Show/Hide Deductions, Create New, and Delete Row(s).

The Show Deductions button will be visible when pricing deduction fields are not visible and when clicked will cause the pricing deduction fields to be made visible. The Show Deductions button will be replaced with the Hide Deductions button.

The Hide Deductions button will be visible when pricing deduction fields are visible and, when clicked, will cause the pricing deduction fields to be hidden. If the Hide Deductions button is clicked after making changes to any sales data without saving the changes, a message will pop up indicating you have un-saved changes. Pricing deduction fields cannot be hidden when there are unsaved changes. Save or Revert the changes before clicking the Hide Deductions button. The Hide Deductions button will be replaced with the Show Deductions button.

SALES GRID

SALES GRID

Product

The Product associated with the transaction.

This is a required field.

Plant Facility

The Plant associated with the transaction.

This is an optional field.

  • The Plant Facility is only valid for non-oil products.

    • For partner operated batteries in British Columbia, the Plant Facility will only be displayed for Production Dates equal to or greater than the BC Petrinex Implementation date.

  • The Plant Facility entered on the transaction must be OFF production and can be from any province.

  • If there is a Primary Plant for the battery and the Plant Facility is left blank on the transaction, then it is assumed that the Plant Facility associated with the transaction is the Primary Plant.

    • The Primary Plant or the Plant Facility on the transaction for NGL products will be used for the BC Petrinex NGL Valuation RTP data generation. For partner operated batteries in British Columbia with NGL production and/or sales, a Plant Facility is required to correctly generate the NGL data for NGL Valuation RTP submissions.
Note: If you need to show the sales occurring at a GS then you need to set up a Qbyte Metrix Plant Facility and override the Petrinex ID fields indicating that the facility represents a GS.

When uploading transaction data from a spreadsheet, the Plant Facility column can be populated from the data in the WIO file for those batteries that have the Upload Plant flag set to Yes on the Partner Operated Battery Maintenance - Production tab.

When uploading the Plant Facility, the process will first look for a GP or GS in the Cascade Facility column.

  • If the Cascade Facility is blank or is not a GP or GS, the process will look for a GP or GS in the Submitting Facility column.

  • If a GP or GS is found in either column, then the process will determine if there is a corresponding Qbyte Metrix Plant ID for that facility.

Note: The Plant Facility will be uploaded only if a valid Qbyte Metrix Plant ID is found matching the Petrinex ID in the file, and if it is OFF production.

Purchaser

The Purchaser associated with the transaction.

This is a required field.

Note: None of the transactions being uploaded from a spreadsheet (Petrinex formats of Volumetric and WIO reports) have Purchaser information, so if a new Sales transaction is encountered in a file being uploaded the Partner Operated Upload Default Purchaser entered on the System Configuration - Partner Operated tab will be used. If there is a matching transaction (ignoring Purchaser) then the volume in the uploaded file will be put on the first matching transaction found. The user may have to split the uploaded volume to multiple sales transactions with the correct Purchasers.

Purch Seq#

The Sequence Number associated with the transaction.

Once set up, these pricing records can be applied to all matching transactions using the Allocate button. Not only do pricing records reduce initial data entry by calculating/allocating value to all appropriate transactions but they also make it easier to deal with changes or amendments. Simply change the volume or GJs on the impacted transactions and then click the Allocate button to re-apply pricing records based on the modified volume/GJs, instead of having to manually calculate and re-enter modified values on each transaction.

For partner operated properties that need to generate Oil Valuation RTP submissions, use the Pricing tab to associate a Shipper Owner Contract with matching Oil sales transactions when the Generate Oil Valuation Data process is run.

Another reason to use the Pricing tab is to set up a Battery Default Oil Price to be used in Oil Royalty Obligations based on Production Volumes when there are no Oil Sales. Create an Oil Sales pricing record where All Purchasers = YesAll Purchaser Sequences = Yes, All Destinations = Yes, and Pricing Option = Price Per Unit.

Pricing records will be copied into the next month during the Month End Close. Price/Value data will be reset to zero in the next month. Transportation and pricing deduction rates/values will also be reset to zero in the next month, by default. However, transportation and pricing deduction rates will be copied into the next month when the corresponding option on the Region Master is Yes. (Retain Purchaser Transportation Rates controls whether transportation rates are copied into the next month. Retain Purchaser Deduction Rates controls whether pricing deduction rates are copied into the next month.)

The grid at the top of the page displays the pricing Information you have previously saved. The Pricing Deductions may or may not be visible by default, depending upon the Show Pricing Dedns.

Before entering pricing deduction values there are a number of considerations that should be taken into account. These considerations are the same for operated properties and can be viewed on Pricing Monthly Processing.

The Allocate button is enabled when at least one pricing record exists. When the Allocate button is clicked, all pricing records are processed and applied to their matching transactions. This means that all matching transactions will have the value re-calculated along with the transportation and pricing deductions, where applicable. However, since pricing records can have different fields specified that may cause a transaction to match to more than one pricing record, they must first be sorted in priority order. In general, the more fields populated on the pricing record, the higher the priority, however, certain fields will take precedence. The following lists the priority order by transaction type, with the highest priority at the top of the list.

Crown/Freehold/Override

  • Royalty Owner specified

  • All Royalty Owners

Sales

  • Plant, Purchaser, Purchaser Sequence, and Destination Type/ID specified

  • All Plants, Purchaser, Purchaser Sequence, and Destination Type/ID specified

  • Plant, Purchaser, Purchaser Sequence and All Destinations specified

  • All Plants, Purchaser, Purchaser Sequence and All Destinations specified

  • Plant, All Purchasers, and Destination Type/ID specified

  • All Plants, All Purchasers, and Destination Type/ID specified

  • Plant, All Purchasers, and All Destinations specified

  • All Plants, All Purchasers, and All Destinations specified

It also populates the values on the Totals tab.

The Pricing tab allows you to:

  • Input prices for many products before using the Allocate button to allocate revenue to the wells.

  • Price Crown, freehold, and overriding royalties in the same manner.

  • Allocate partner operated revenue based on total value or price per unit. Gas sales can still be allocated by gigajoule or sales volume.

  • Price by destination.
For example: If an operator sends gas to more than one pipeline, you can apply different prices to each destination (pipeline). The destination can be uploaded from the Petrinex Working Interest Owner file.

  • Price by plant facility.
For example: If gas and products are produced/sold at multiple plants, you can apply different prices for the products at each plant facility. If there is a Primary Plant for the battery and the Plant Facility is left blank on the sales transaction, it is assumed that the Plant associated with the transaction is the Primary Plant and it is used as such when the Allocation button is clicked.

    • The plant facility can be uploaded from the Petrinex Working Interest Owner file.

  • Price by purchaser sequence number. Unique sequence numbers can be assigned to enable different prices for the same purchaser.

When a pricing row is used to price a sales transaction, the associated User Defined field is displayed next to the Purchaser Seq # within the Sales grid of the Transactions tab.

Preview

The Preview section will display an approximation of what the total values will be when the pricing record is applied to all matching records. The Preview calculations are done when a previously saved pricing record is highlighted, the Preview button is clicked, or when the Save button is clicked.

The Preview calculations are an approximation of what the calculated/allocated values will be when the Allocate button is clicked. (They are only approximations because the calculations are done at the total-level, sum of all matching records, as opposed to at each well-transaction and they do not take into account different-levels of pricing records. For example, if there is a pricing record for all Oil Sales with purchaser 000001 and another for all Oil Sales with destination Plant 000003. An Oil Sales transaction with purchaser 000001 and destination Plant 000003 will be included in the Preview calculations for both pricing records. However, during the Allocate calculations, the pricing record with purchaser 000001 will be used as that level takes precedence. During the Allocate calculations, all pricing records are taken into account. During the Preview calculations, only the current record is taken into account.

The Preview calculations are based on either Net or Gross volume/GJs entered, depending upon Transaction Level on the Battery Maintenance - Production screen. When the Transaction Level is Both, the calculations are done on the Net volume/GJs only.

When Allocate By = Sale Volume, the Preview section will look as follows for Sales transactions when pricing deductions are being shown.

When Allocate By = Gigajoule, the Preview section will look as follows for Sales transactions when pricing deductions are being shown.

Possible fields in the Preview section are as follows:

Field

Description

Field

Description

Volume

The accumulated volume of all transactions that match the current pricing record.

This field is only displayed when Allocate By = Sales Volume.

GJs

The accumulated GJs of all transactions that match the current pricing record.

This field is only displayed when Allocate By = Gigajoule.

Value

The accumulated value of all transactions that match the current pricing record.

This is calculated by first either multiplying either the Volume or GJs field, depending upon Allocate By, by the entered Price when Pricing Option = Price Per Unit or when Pricing Option = Total Contract Value, simply taking the entered Value. When the Transaction Type = Sales, there is a second step to subtract any calculated pricing deductions from this value, so that it reflects the value that is being received from the purchaser.

Transportation Value

The accumulated transportation cost of all transactions that match the current pricing record.

When Transportation Type = Rate, this is calculated by multiplying either the Volume or GJs field, depending upon Allocate By, by the entered Transportation Rate. When Transportation Type = Total Amount, this is simply the entered Transportation Value.

This field is only displayed when Transaction Type = Sales.

Pricing Deductions - the following fields are only visible when pricing deductions are being shown (using the Show Deductions button or having the Show Pricing Dedns. Default option set to Yes on the Battery Maintenance - Production screen).

Quality Adj. Value

The accumulated quality adjustment cost of all transactions that match the current pricing record.

When Quality Adj. Type = Rate, this is calculated by multiplying either the Volume or GJs field, depending upon Allocate By, by the entered Quality Adj. Rate. When Quality Adj. Type = Total Amount, this is simply the entered Quality Adj. Value.

This field is only displayed when Transaction Type = Sales and pricing deductions are being shown.

Tariff Value

The accumulated tariff cost of all transactions that match the current pricing record.

When Tariff Type = Rate, this is calculated by multiplying either the Volume or GJs field, depending upon Allocate By, by the entered Tariff Rate. When Tariff Type = Total Amount, this is simply the entered Tariff Value.

This field is only displayed when Transaction Type = Sales and pricing deductions are being shown.

Line Loss Value

The accumulated line loss cost of all transactions that match the current pricing record.

When Line Loss Type = Rate, this is calculated by multiplying either the Volume or GJs field, depending upon Allocate By, by the entered Line Loss Rate. When Line Loss Type = Total Amount, this is simply the entered Line Loss Value.

This field is only displayed when Transaction Type = Sales and pricing deductions are being shown.

Other#1 Value

The accumulated other#1 cost of all transactions that match the current pricing record.

When Other#1 Type = Rate, this is calculated by multiplying either the Volume or GJs field, depending upon Allocate By, by the entered Other#1 Rate. When Other#1 Type = Total Amount, this is simply the entered Other#1. Value.

This field is only displayed when Transaction Type = Sales and pricing deductions are being shown.

Other#2 Value

The accumulated other#2 cost of all transactions that match the current pricing record.

When Other#2 Type = Rate, this is calculated by multiplying either the Volume or GJs field, depending upon Allocate By, by the entered Other#2 Rate. When Other#2 Type = Total Amount, this is simply the entered Other#2 Value.

This field is only displayed when Transaction Type = Sales and pricing deductions are being shown.

Base Value

The accumulated base value of all transactions that match the current pricing record.

Base value is calculated as Value plus Quality Adj. Value plus Tariff Value plus Line Loss Value plus Other#1 Value plus Other#2 Value.

This field is only displayed when Transaction Type = Sales and pricing deductions are being shown.

Reminder: Once you have entered all the pricing records, or you need to re-apply pricing records after making changes to transactions, use the Allocate button to apply all pricing records to their matching sales or royalty transactions and update values on the appropriate transaction tabs.

Totals

The Totals tab displays a summary of all sales, royalties and production volumes and values. Sales transactions will be summarized to the product/purchaser level. Royalty transactions will be summarized to the product/royalty type/royalty owner level. Production transactions will be summarized to the product level.

With pricing deduction fields visible the Sales grid can have many columns, so the following picture shows them all at once to make it easier to review.

Edit Well Transactions
