Introduction

Qbyte Metrix can import some master data from spreadsheets to make mass changes easier.

For example, imports can be used for:

  • Mass changes to well master data for multiple months – You no longer must open for amendment at Step 1 to perform a master change.

  • Oil/water gas ratios – Input oil/water gas ratios for many wells in a spreadsheet import to update all the wells at once.

  • Spring/fall fuel rates – Create two spreadsheet imports, one for spring and one for fall fuel rates. Import the appropriate spreadsheet as required.

  • Create complete or partial royalty obligations for multiple wells/tracts at once.

You must also have Full Access to the corporate security component RoyaltyUserDefinedFactorCreateDelete and/or RoyaltyUserDefinedFactorEdit

ROYALTYOBLIGATIONHDR - Create Pending Royalty Obligation Masters

This template can be used to create Royalty Obligation Masters with only a subset of the fields required to create a Royalty Obligation. To update existing Royalty Obligations, the ROYALTYOBLIGATION template must be used. All Royalty Obligation Masters created using this template will be created with an Active status of Pending.

This is most useful when you do not have all the information (i.e., Formula) required to create the obligation. You must also have Full Access to the security component RoyaltiesImportByTemplate, as this component allows you to create royalty obligation headers. After creating new Royalty Obligations, the facility/control group that the well is attached to will not be reset.

WELLABOILCROWN - Update Alberta Well Oil Crown Factors (as of Release 24.4)

This template can be used to update various Oil crown fields (Oil Density, Crown Calculation Type, Equivalent Sub Use Type) for Alberta wells. You must have Full Access to the security component WellFactorsEdit, as this component allows you to update the Well Royalty Crown Factors for Alberta wells.

WELLCONSBYLABEL - Update Well Consumption Rates by Label

This template can be used to Import Consumption Factor Rates for existing Consumption Factors (monthly, if necessary). This template will not create Consumption Factors; it will only update existing Consumption Factors. You must also have Full Access to the security component WellFactorsEdit, as this component allows you to update the Well Consumption Factors. After updating the Well Consumption Factors, the facility/control group that the well is attached to will be reset.

WELLCONSDELETEBYLABEL - Delete Well Consumption Factors by Label

This template can be used to delete Well Consumption Factors. You must have Full Access to the security component WellFactorsEdit. After deleting the Well Consumption Factors, the facility/control group that the well is attached to will be reset.

WELLCONSUMPTION - Create/Update Well Consumption Factor

This template can be used to create and/or update Well Consumption Factors. If the Well Consumption Factor from the Import file does not exist, the Consumption Factor will be created. If the Well Consumption Factor is found, all columns will be updated.

This template can be used when Well Consumption Factors need to be added to wells, or when existing Well Consumption Factors need to be changed. You must also have Full Access to the security component WellFactorsEdit, as this component allows you to update the Well Consumption Factors. After updating the well, the facility/control group that the well is attached to will be reset.

WELLCONSUMPTIONUPD - Update Well Consumption Factors

This template can be used to update existing Well Consumption Factors. This template is like WELLCONSUMPTION; the difference is that this template cannot be used to add Well Consumption Factors. You must also have Full Access to the security component WellFactorsEdit, as this component allows you to update the Well Consumption Factors. After updating the well, the facility/control group that the well is attached to will be reset.

WELLMASTERCREATION - Create Well Masters

This template can be used to create Well Masters. This template is most useful when you need to create many wells. You must also have Full Access to the security component WellMaintenanceEdit, as this component allows you to create new wells.

WELLMASTERGENERALUPD - Update Well Master General Data

This template can only be used to update Well Master Data. You must also have Full Access to the security component WellMaintenanceEdit, as this component allows you to update the well. After updating the well, the facility/control group that the well is attached to will be reset.

WELLMASTERGENERALUPDNORESET - Update Well Master General Data - No Reset

This template is like WELLMASTERGENERALUPD in the way of the columns available for update. However, this template will not check for Locked/Closed status, nor will it reset the facility/control group the well is attached to after the import. Instead of using the standard WellMaintenanceEdit security component, to use this template you must have Full Access to the security component ImportByTemplateNoReset.

WELLMASTERUWIUPDNORESET - Update Well Master UWI Data - No Reset

This template is like WELLMASTERGENERALUPDNORESET in the way that this template will not check for Locked/Closed status, nor will it reset the facility/control group the well is attached to after the import. Instead of using the standard WellMaintenanceEdit security component, to use this template you must have Full Access to the security component ImportByTemplateNoReset. This template can only be used to update the Location of the well.

WELLPRODUCTIONFACTOR - Update Well Production Factors

This template can be used to update all the Well Production Factors such as Water Gas Ratio Factor, Water Gas Ratio Test Date, Oil Meter Factor, etc. If it is a Saskatchewan well, the HOR/EOR Rate can be updated as well. Note: This data can also be exported from Qbyte Optix using the Well Data Extract and the Commonly Used Attributes option of Production Factors.

WELLWGR - Update Well Water Gas Ratio Factor

This template can be used to update only the water gas ratio and the water gas ratio test date. No other data elements are updated.

WELLWGROGR - Update Well Water and Oil Gas Ratio Factors

This template can be used to update the Water and Oil Gas Ratio Factors, Codes and Test Dates. No other data elements are updated.

Import by Template

Menu Option

The menu option to import can be found within Import / Export > Template Based > Import Data By Template.

Note: This menu will not be displayed unless you have Full Access to the ImportByTemplate security component.

Import Screen

Field

Description

Field

Description

Name

Can be left blank, or any name can be entered. If left blank, the name will default to Filename with Current Production Month (e.g., WELLCONDBYLABEL_AKEIMPW01W01_200804.CSV).

Template ID*

Can be either entered or selected using the Advanced Search > Search.

Comment

This is not mandatory and can be left blank. This comment can be used to describe the import.

Filename*

Click the Add button to find and add the file to import.

File Includes Header

Indicates if the .CSV being used to import includes a header row or not.

Entity Key Mapping

The selected Mapped by Entity will be used to find matching records in the second column of the .CSV file.

Valid Mapped By entities include:

  • ID – Qbyte Metrix ID

  • GOVT – Government Code

  • UWI – For Wells, this is the location (formatted location without survey system). For Tracts, this is the Legal Presentation.

  • UDF1 – User-defined 1

  • UDF2 – User-defined 2

  • REGTRY – Petrinex ID (i.e., AB BT 0000045)
For example: If the spreadsheet uses UWIs as the Well IDs then the Mapped By should be UWI. The default is Well ID.

Note: Not all templates will require fields with Key Mapping, and some may have multiple fields that can be mapped, each with their own Key Mapping values.

Generate Sample: Templates can be generated by clicking the Generate Sample button. When this button is clicked, the selected Template will open in .CSV format.

Submit: This button will submit the Import. If an Import by the same name has been previously submitted, a message will display asking if the previous results can be overwritten.

How to Import

You must first decide which template to use. (See the  Spreadsheet Import Templates  section.) Once that is decided, a sample file with the correct template format can be generated by following the steps below:

1. Navigate to the Import Data by Template screen and enter the Template ID.

2. Click the Generate Sample button.

Note: This step is not required with each import because once you have a sample you can continue to use it. However, the templates may change over time, so you may need to update your sample files from time to time.

The Generate Sample button opens an Excel screen with the template information. All templates will have two rows populated. The first row is a header row with column headings, and the second row provides details indicating how to populate the column. Both rows can be deleted once the actual data is entered, as you can import a file with or without column headings.

However, if you are importing a file with headings, we are assuming only one row of headings, so the row containing details about each column should be deleted. Data can be created/updated in the following ways:

  • Using the rules and information on the second row, you can manually enter the data that needs to be uploaded.

  • Use an external system (i.e., FDC System) to generate the template using the rules provided by P2.

Note: When importing a file to update existing Qbyte Metrix data, you cannot leave columns blank that you do not want to change, as blank may be a valid option for a lot of Qbyte Metrix data columns. Instead, for columns that are required in the Import file, but that you do not want to be modified, you should enter an exclamation mark (!). This tells the import to leave the data in that column as it was. When you are creating new data within an import, the exclamation mark (!) is not valid as there is no pre-existing data to leave as is.

Once the data is entered, the .CSV file should be saved (i.e., MyImport.CSV).

  • See the Appendix section for examples of templates with sample data.

Now that your data is ready:

3. Navigate back into the Import by Template screen. A Name is optional.

Note: If the name is not provided, the process will create a name for you. If left blank, the name will default to Filename with Current Production Month (e.g., WELLCONDBYLABEL_AKEIMPW01W01_200804.CSV).

4. Select your Template ID and then select the Add button to select the file.

  • If the file you are importing contains a row for the column headers, leave the File Includes Header as Yes (default value).

  • If you removed all headers change this to No. If the Template ID you selected has fields that represent Qbyte Metrix entities, you may see rows in the Entity Key Mapping grid.

  • You can choose the Mapping option you used when you entered the data into the file to be imported.

Note: You must ensure that the method you used in the file is a valid option for the Template ID you selected.

5. Click the Submit button.

The Submit button will submit a job to import the data.

  • As shown below, the Process Monitor will provide the status of the job and all messages related to the Import process.

  • If there are errors, the Message Centre will display a message requesting you to look at the Import Process Status report within Qbyte Metrix Reporting. (See the Import Status report, Production > Interoperability > Metrix Imports, section below.) This report can also be accessed from within the Process Monitor for the Import by Template Process. Simply click the paper icon, and it will launch the corresponding Qbyte Optix report.

  • If no errors exist, the message will indicate that the job completed successfully.

Import Status Report

The Import Status report (Production > Interoperability > Qbyte Metrix Imports) displays the imported data elements and all errors and warnings that occurred during the Import.
