Introduction
Once the sales split has been submitted to the pipeline and you require additional changes, it Is difficult to make the required changes without impacting the split.
Freeze splits allows you to make changes to volumes or DOI etc., without affecting the previously submitted sales split results.
When a frozen split is applied the system will save and automatically override the current split, thereby forcing any differences to be reflected in closing inventory volumes. Closing inventories can become negative. It is important to remember that the changes you make will change the production volumes, and only the sales volumes will be frozen. This means any royalties, etc. based on production will be adjusted to reflect the changes, but royalties based on sales, etc. will still be based on the frozen data.
Metrix now generates an alert (in the Message Center) indicating that a frozen split has been applied.
Alert messages are also generated if any of the closing inventories become negative (not just through applying a frozen split).
Freeze Points
Allocated disposition volumes to a delivery system are identified as freeze points. When changing a freeze point, the overall total volume for the freeze point cannot be changed. The freeze point must be unfrozen if the overall volume needs to be changed.
A freeze point is represented by the following:
Production date
Facility
Product
Destination delivery system
See the Appendix section for an example of what happens when frozen splits are re-applied after a change.
Explorer
When the system configuration function type Freeze Point Processing is set to Yes, a new Freeze Points menu option will appear on the right-hand Menu when a control group or facility is selected. This menu option will be enabled based on your security access to the control group for the FreezePoint security component.
Selecting Freeze Points from the menu will take you to the Freeze Points screen.
Freeze Points Screen
The Freeze Points screen displays oil, gas and product dispositions to a delivery system. The selected facility must be at Step 2 or beyond to be able to freeze splits.
Select the control group or facility to access the Freeze Points screen.
You can select a row(s) or freeze point to freeze or unfreeze splits. A previously frozen split can be modified by selecting the Modify Splits Action.
The Freeze Splits and UnFreeze Splits Actions are submitted jobs, while the Modify Splits Action is performed online.
Action: Freeze Splits
The Freeze Splits Action is the default action on the screen and will always be displayed. The facility must be complete to at least Step 2 in order to freeze. Locked or closed control groups can be frozen as well.
Select a row(s) or freeze point to freeze and then Submit.
Freeze points will be identified by the snowflake () icon. The corresponding Balance screens (shown in the Balance Screens section below) will also display the snowflake () icon within the disposition row.
Action: UnFreeze Splits
If the control group (or control group of the facility) selected is locked or closed for Step 2, you will not be able to unfreeze splits.
When a freeze point is unfrozen, the facility will be reset to Incomplete and you will have to re-process from Step 1.
Action: Modify Splits
The Modify Splits Action will always be available as an action option, and can only be used to modify frozen splits. This option is most useful if you need to modify a previously frozen split due to ownership, royalty owner and/or purchaser changes. You can use this option to modify the owner (or reference owner) on the split.
Balance Screens
The Plant Balance, Battery Balance and the Gas Flow (GGS & Battery) Balance for gas flow facilities will also indicate frozen delivery points by the snowflake () icon .

Battery Balance
Gas Flow Balance
Gas Flow Balance - Battery
Gas Flow Balance - GGS
Market Master Screens
The Market Master screen displays the snowflake () icon on each disposition that is frozen.
Energy Override Screen
The Energy Override screen displays the snowflake () icon on each disposition that is frozen.
Compare Splits Report
The Compare Splits report can be used to verify the previous and current volume after processing the facility.
System Configuration
To leverage the freeze splits functionality:
1. Enable the Freeze Point Processing functional implementation flag. The default is No.
Security Components
2. Add the FreezePoint security component to the appropriate control group roles.
The FreezePoint security component controls access to functionality related to freeze points. This security component is a control group level component that grants users access to the freeze point functionality for some control groups and not others.
You are now able to freeze your splits as long as the facility or control group is at Step 2 or beyond.
3. Re-run your property once you freeze the split and your changes have been made.
The Message Center alert messages will indicate if a frozen split was applied.
You can use the Compare Splits report to validate the results.
Appendix
Freeze Splits - When the DOI Changes
When the well has only one partner, the Production and Sale Distribution Details report and the SAF/OAF appear similar to the screens below.
Freeze the Split
Add a New DOI
On the SAF/OAF
The split remains the same (frozen)
The production volume reflects the new production (after changes)
The volume difference is displayed as closing inventory to the partners.
Message Centre
The Message Centre displays new Exception and Alert messages to indicate that a split has been applied and inventory has gone negative.
