Cap/Solution Wells
Back to Well Maintenance Back to FAQ and How To's
The purpose of Cap and Solution gas wells is to address the possible unique ownership of producing zones from within the same wellbore. A single well could be producing solution gas from an oil zone and also producing gas from a cap gas zone. Each of the zones may have different Working Interest Ownership which would require Cap and Solution well set up in Metrix.
The set up of Cap gas and Solution wells in Metrix will require that 3 separate wells be set up:
a) ‘P’arent well for transactional data well level input at the battery (no DOI attached)
b) ‘C’ap gas well (DOI attached with cap gas ownership)
c) ‘S’olution well (DOI attached with solution gas ownership)
The Parent well is used for well level transactional data input at the battery. The Cap and Solution wells are used for gas allocations and are the wells that are referenced in market masters, royalty master set up, facility charges and also the wells that are shown on the financial interface.
Configure Cap and Solution Wells
1. Create 3 unique well IDs. One for each of the parent, cap and solution wells.
2. Turn all 3 wells on production.
3. For each of the cap and solution wells, navigate to the Advanced tab on the Well Maintenance screen and flag the wells as cap or solution.
Cap Well
Solution Well
4. Link the cap & solution wells to the reporting battery. Do not link the parent well to the battery.
5. For the parent well, go to Advanced tab on the Well Maintenance screen to complete the following:
Flag the well as a parent well
Attach the related cap and solution wells
Input solution gas factor
The cap and solution relationship will now appear as indented to the parent well on the battery hierarchy
In the Battery Balance screen, only the Parent well will appear:
Dismantle a Cap and Solution Configuration
To Detach the Child Wells from the Parent well do the following:
Clear Well Production from the Parent Well (Battery Balance Well Input Tab).
Delete the Cap and Sol Wells from the Parent Well Advanced tab.
From the Wells Tab of the Battery Maintenance remove the Cap and Solution wells.
Navigate back to the Advanced Tab of the Well Master screen and change the Cap and Solution well to N/A. Cap and Solution Well Type must be changed the Parent, Cap and Solutions wells.
