Admin

Code Change and Mass Update processes cannot be run if files are locked or held.

Under the Qbyte CS Land menu option Admin > Work with Users, the System Administrator has the ability to:

Display Current Users

Prior to running Mass Change or Code Change processes, the System Administrator may want to use the Display Current Users option to see who is currently logged into Qbyte CS Land.  Select Work With Users from the Admin menu, and then choose Display Current Users to see the current users.

Remove Global Locks

The system places global locks on all files when a process (such as a Code Change) is about to run. If the process does not complete normally or is interrupted for any reason, the global locks are not removed.

If a user tries to open a document while global locks are present, the system displays a message instructing that global locks must be removed before they can continue their work.  Only the System Administrator can remove the global locks by using the Remove Global Locks function.

How to Remove Global Locks:

1. Select Work with Users from the Admin menu, and then choose Remove Global Locks.  If locks exist, the system displays a message indicating that global locks exist. The message includes the database log files (C_LOG, L_LOG, S_LOG, and W_LOG) that are locked and the user id of the person who initiated the lock, as well as the day and time that the lock was initiated. To print a copy of this message, click Print in the message window.

Note: If locks do not exist, the system displays a message indicating that there are no global locks to remove.

2. Select Close to confirm the message. The system displays a message prompting you if you wish to continue removing the global locks.

3. Select Yes to have the system remove the locks or Select No to retain the locks.

Change User Locks

The System Administrator can use the Change User Locks option to unlock individual files that may have been locked by the system. The system places user locks on files when a file has been closed incorrectly because the system was shut down before the file could be properly saved to the database.

The Change User Locks option also allows the System Administrator to change the current user ID on an open file. For example, if a user is absent has left open a file that another user needs to work on, the System Administrator can use the Change User Locks function to assign a different user ID to the locked file.

How to Change User Locks:

1. From the Admin menu, select Work with Users and then choose Change User Locks.

2. Choose the applicable module(s) and click the Retrieve button.  If locks exist, the system displays a list of the locked files, and the User ID under which the files are locked.  If there are no locks a popup message will indicate 'There are no files to unlock'

3. If updating one file at a time to a new 'To' user:

3.1. Highlight the file that needs to be unlocked.

3.2. In the To field drop down list, choose the user ID to which the highlighted file is to be assigned to for maintenance.

3.3. Click Update Row to instantly update the User ID.

4. If updating all files in the list to a new 'To' user:

4.1.  In the To field drop down list, choose the user ID to which all files will be assigned to for maintenance.

4.2. Click Update All.  A popup message will be shown to confirm 'This process will update all rows in the window.  Do you want to proceed?'

4.3. Click Yes to update all files to the new 'To' user or click No to to abort the update.

5. Have the new 'To' user exit out of the application and then sign back on. The system will display the Interrupted Icon with a list of the files that remain open because they were closed out of improperly.  The new User to whom the file(s) are now assigned to needs to open, update and eventually close the document appropriately.

Release Held Files

Whenever a user has multiple files selected and, for some reason, ends their session abnormally, the system puts a User Lock on the file they were currently editing and applies a Hold status to the remaining files. The System Administrator can use the Release Held Files option to release all of the held files.

In order to remove the User Lock on the file in which the user was working in, either the user will update it the next time they log into the application or alternatively, the System Administrator can use the Change User Locks function and reassign the update to a different user.

How to Release Held Files:

1. From the Admin menu, select Work with Users and choose Release Held Files. The system searches for all files currently with a held status.  Note: This process can take a few minutes if there many files in your database.

If Held files are found, a display window will appear with a drop down box listing the User IDs under which the Held files exist.

If no Held files are found, a popup message will indicate 'No Held Files Found'.  Click OK to end the process.

2. Choose a User ID from the drop-down box and select Update.

3. At the prompt: Do You Wish to Continue? Select Yes or optionally, select No to retain the hold on the files for that particular user.  When Yes is selected a popup message will appear to indicate 'All files held by JXJ0918 were released'.  Select OK

4. If there are other users with held files, continue to choose User IDs from the drop-down box and release the files.

5. Select Cancel when you are done.
